P4P just began to take grainy pics, didn't change anything from before.

Cool. What settings were used? You didn't forget and leave an ND filter in, did you? I've done that.

Thanks for the response, no ND filter. I think it may have been the ISO number jumping to some ridiculous setting on its own. I will test tomorrow.

Higher ISO = grainier image.
The ISO setting for that image was 6400 (almost the max possible).
For less grain, set ISO to 100

The image metadata indicates that you left the camera to make all exposure settings.
Instead of doing that, take some control and set your exposure like this:

Select the A in the top row - that's A for Aperture priority
Set ISO to 100
Select the aperture value - 5.6 is good for most daylight photography.
The camera will choose a shutter speed that's appropriate for the scene you are photographing.
I find that adjusting Exposure Compensation to -0.3 gives me the best exposure.

Yea I know about ISO . Generally, I use 100 in daytime; don't know where the heck that 6400 came from and didn't even notice it. Thanks for the response.

P4P+ maximum lens optical quality is f4 to f4.5, isn't it...?
I keep mine at f4.5 always...
Remember, on 1" sensor f4.5 is really ?f11? depth of field full frame equivalent...

Whenever I use a flight mode like Active Track the camera settings switch to Auto. Is that possibly what happened?

No .. the lens produces good image quality at any aperture.

f4.5 is f4.5 and the lens has tons of depth of field at any aperture.
You would only notice any difference in DoF if your subject is only a few feet away.

MAXIMUM image quality = f4
f4.5 is very near MAXIMUM.
good does not equal maximum...
shoot exact same compositions at varied f stops,
then look toward edges & see differences...
I don't know what else I can say...
maybe visit DPR & search topic...

What is the basis for asserting that maximum image quality is achieved at f 4.5?
I would challenge you to see if you can find any difference in image quality at different apertures.
Image quality is excellent at any aperture despite what you might have read from some pixel-peeping reviewer.
