Phantom 3 4K RC reset

Can somebody tell me the hard reset instructions for the Phantom 3 4K RC? I sold my drone on Ebay and it was working fine when I sent it. Buyer complained that it wasn't working. I had him send it back. Now when I turn the RC on it beeps constantly with the red light flashing. Tried doing a controller calibration in the Go app but I can't get the calibration to finish. DJI instructed me to do a hard reset of the controller but so far none of their suggestions has stopped the beeping/flashing. I have a feeling they didn't send me the correct commands.

if I remember right you can rest by opening the controller disconnecting the battery for a few min and reconnect it back up. is your controller linked to the AC?

Could be the buyer tried a firmware update that failed. Assuming the app was prompting for an update when he got it. The red flashing and beeping sound like the symptoms of failed updates.
