Hey there,

wondering if anyone on here has been given official authorisation for drone filming in the Peak District.

I'm planning a branded content shoot and by the looks of it, the National Park and National Trust are reluctant to approve drone filming. It'd be appreciated if anyone could recommend private landowners or specific contact people that have approved drone filming in the past.

Many thanks.

Here's a PDF of the Rules for filming using UAV's in Scottish National Trust Properties. It isn't that it is totally banned but the conditions are pretty strict. Everything from marking flooring with tripod feet to £5M liability insurance in case you happen to fly through a centuries old stained glass window. Purpose of filming, size of crew, filming time expected. And that's for starters. The "Permissions" are aimed at more at TV Period Productions so they "might" be amenable to a small project which could be completed in an "off peak" afternoon.

You can only ask. There are some contacts in the PDF but obviously for Scottish Castles & Properties. They will at least give you an idea whether to continue with your project or wheher it knocks it on the head before you start. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Hey there,

Thanks for the reply. We'll be filming in the English peak District and generally the authorities don't seem to be too interested in facilitating drone filming in the national park/ national trust.

I was wondering if anyone on here had specific contacts with private landowners that ajve, in the past, facilitated drone filming on their land.

This is a commercial project so Ithere is a budget for filming permits.

Thanks again for your time.

How far away are you from the Peak District? It will probably come down to a bit of foot slogging to ask for permission or checking directories on websites for contact numbers. What about approaching Tourist Guides? Being on the east side of the pond means that us UK/ Scottish/ English members are in a minority around here. Try camp/ camper sites and ask if they have suitable areas which they could offer, or if they can supply any leads to someone with a spare field.

My cousin went camping for the holiday weekend up north and asked for permission to fly around the site. The owner was intrigued with the idea of UAV photography, agreed as long as he could see the result. He was even more impressed when given a copy of the fly past (movie and stills) for use in his website for his camp site.

You could try the same and offer a couple of aerial shots as a sweetener for permission. Good luck with the project.
