Can someone please advise If side sensors on the Phantom4 pro can be activated in modes other than beginner and Tripod using dji assistant? Thanks

No. The side sensors are only active in Tripod and Beginner mode as you stated. You can't activate them with DJI Assistant or other means, because they would not be effective at the higher speeds of the other modes. Those are infrared sensors and don't have the range of the visual sensors on the front and back.
Well if they aren't effective at higher speeds then why would you want them to be active? You might then think they will protect you when in fact they would not be able to sense an object before you hit it. That would then lead to many people complaining to DJI that the sensors don't work.
It's the same principle that applies to the forward and reverse sensors in sport mode. At those higher speeds the sensors would not protect you so they are disabled.
Good answer. Still it assumes that I always go fast in normal mode, which is not true. Maybe I'm new to this but is it customary to alway use Tripod Mode when you need to go slow?

Everything comes down to skill level, and for most of us seasoned pilots the sensors are annoying , the constant beep and the sometimes fatal freeze of the drone when you dont want it.
Sensors are great for beginners and they can stop you from flying the drone right back into your face or other people however your not suppose to fly around people anyway so there is that.
The Tripod mode allows you to get a constant smooth flow for cinematic purposes, and trying to do the same without it is challenging as its easy to speed up and so the footage get jerky, and than requires a ton of editing.
Learning to fly without any sensors it taking full responsiblity for your drone and the making the best decisions possible and that is really where you want to be on every flight.
No it doesn't assume anything. The fact is that you can go faster in other modes. So it would only lead to more confusion if the sensors work only up to a certain speed and you wouldn't really know when the sensors are working or not working. As it stands, the sensors work all the time in the modes where they are active.
