It would not surprise me if the software could cause your bird to fly away to a waiting van for ransom. "give us some money or your bird is a goner!" "No No please not my bird I have a wife and kids!.... take them!"

Aside from the implications of this modification if true, I'm a bit disappointed with the poor journalism of the article quoted above. Reliable journalists check facts, double check them, and then check them again. Seems like the writer didn't bother. He/she mentioned the mod could also get rid of the 500 foot altitude limit. There is no 500 foot altitude limit. It's 500 meters, a huge difference. In the technical arena, attention to detail is critical. Sorry, I'm just being grouchy tonight.
