No connection with DJI Go app since updated to v3.1.34

I bought my Phantom 3 Advanced in 2016 and eveything was fine using my Samsung Tab 4 untlil DJI Go needed to be updated on my controller and all connection with the app lost. Latestet firmware P3s_FW_V01.11.002 and app V3.1.34 was installed but Phantom 3 Advanced in app wouldn't connect (only the Inspire 1 would). I also used my Samsung S8+ but taht was tje same. If I remember rightly DJI wouldn't admit to a bug and only suggested replacing the USB cable. I've only been able to fly without the app by downgrading to the DJI Go app V 02.08 and both the controller and aircraft to P3S_FW_V01.02.007. The gimbal and camera works (video and stills in Jpeg only), but I now want to be able to use it professionally using the app for full control. Could I buy a used P3A and contrloller and upgrade the aircraft from the conroller using the version of the app used by the seller? Or can any help me get my aircraft and controller working?

DJI GO is an app that runs on a phone/tablet, there is no need to upgrade if its working

What is wrong with the app you have? there are plenty of version at apkmirror.com that can be used if the latest one is giving trouble

never ever ever do any upgrades on the controller or quad as this just leads to more issues.
