I had seen similar thread before too.

In my opinion, there is no harm if drone transmit wifi ID for security purposes.

As I recall, I think DJI floated this idea. Probably to perhaps head off even more FAA or city/state restrictions. Personally I wouldn't mind, and the area around home where I fly does not infringe on the airspace of any of the fairly widely spaced neighbors.
