Yes you need them, especially for video. I have also used them for stills of water falls.

This myth just won‘t die. There is no reason that 1/50 or 1/60 of a second is needed for 99% of drone flights. It’s only use is to blur the image slightly. Blurred images can be used to reduce the perception of strobeing when making rapid camera moves. It is exceptionally rare for a drone flight to have these conditions. If you fly really close to ground level fast you might need it 5 feet agl, or very rapid yaws. Otherwise it will never be a problem.
With still images, when would you ever want slightly blurry images?
For those who believe that the result is better, it is only that by accident you got a better exposure with it than without it. You are much better off to get the exposure right in the first place, or make the correction in post.
The only filter use that makes sense is using a circular polarizing filter, whichcan often improve results by controlling the way polarized light behaves, for instance off water, leaves, and other shiny surfaces. This is a benefit that no exposure control or post adjustment can make.
