I watch some videos of quad with microphones..... and I ask myself each time...

"Why ?"

What is the point of hearing the swam of Bee's in your video??? I don't get it.

(And thank god my PH3 don't have it!) :)

Why? Because gopro and other cameras have audio.

I wish our cameras had audio option.

PH3 sounds like a shampoo! :)

Excellent point!

On the couple of occasions that I've wanted the propellers' hum in a short portion of a video, I simply recorded it and overlaid the soundtrack in the appropriate places.

I'd think people would want narration or music in most cases.

But GoPros are usually worn on bodies while skiing, surfing, or just running around. Even then, many videos replace the ambient sound with music. All you'll hear from a Phantom is the wasp-like noise of the props.

I think the only possible reason for a mic would be using the elephantom or similar while carrying around.
But just something more to add to the cost and things that can go wrong.

do you own the elephantom?

if so, what do you think of it?

on the topic of the microphone, I always overlay the buzzing with music...

Sometimes you want to use the quad sound. Sometimes it helps analyze the motor/props behavior if something is not right. Especially if the phantom malfunctions. Also them you could use the camera in stationary/walking situations, or to record audio.

Always better to have the option to turn it off than not having it at all.

You know I don't but I looked into it and almost bought one. I think whats missing or at least I found is the need still for a camera gimbal. I walked the property holding it and every step was recorded so It did not work the way I wanted, I can only assume the same for the Elephantom. Now one thing the YUNEEC crew did was make a nice hand held for the Gimbal camera W/mic, that would be a nice addition to a photographer box.

So sad to say nope.....
