I believe it has the info on the web site somewhere and says up to 2 miles depending on terrain ect. it will track for 3 days and if out of range one can drive in the general direction until you pick up the "tag" on the phantom. Extra tags are about $90 ( I think they will sell them for around $70 if you add a second or third tracker later if you contact them). You can add up to three tags to use on one locator. Hope this helps. If you want the best of all worlds then the Marco Polo plus a GPS Cell type tracker would do it. Like the Trackimo. Hope this helps
