Hi,

First, I would like to introduce myself as an Australian Chief pilot and drone operator that use DJI drones
for professional use.

I have an URGENT and important question and need of your assistance.

Time ago I flew my drone Phantom 4 Plus V2 in a mountain area at about 700m above sea level.
It is at Mount Fox, 4850 Queensland, Australia.
I remember that day before I download on my DJI controller the last update from DJI.
Once I gave the command to the Phantom 4 Plus V2 to take off, it starts to fly first slowly up and then without any command speeding up in the sky vertical very high.
I realised that I lost the control, the motor signed max speed, I could not control the camera and it did not respond to my command to Return Home…
I had manually to command to go down and landing and finally it descended with speed even I tried to slow down and to stop it.
It finally landed hard with speed and the front UV Lens Glass Frame Gimbal Camera has been broken and need repair.
I cannot understand this abnormal behaviour even seem all has been well set up and the screen indicated ready to go.
This even I tried to fly in the beginner mode with the limitation of Altitude 30m and radius 30m of distance, however drone had the same behaviour.

Recently I I download again on my DJI controller the last update from DJI; however I am still hesitant to fly again until I may discover the reason of this drone behaviour.

Thank you very much for your concern and support.
Regards
Frank

Frank ... If you can post your flight data, I'll look into it to see what I can find.
Also it would help if you can describe the spot you launched from.
What was the launch surface.

To post your flight data ...
Go to DJI Flight Log Viewer | Phantom Help
Follow the instructions there to upload your flight record from your phone or tablet.
That will give you a detailed report on the flight data.
Come back and post a link to the report it provides.
Or ... just post the .txt file.

ps ... I'm out in the bush at the moment and will be on the road tomorrow.
If you can post before 6.30am your time, I should be able to look at it, but will be remote for the rest of the day.

Which of these flights was the one you are concerned about?
It would be a lot easier for me if I don't have to wade through all of them to work it out.

I got many logs and I choose these few that I think are relevant.
May be work on the first one that is when went very hight without my command...

Thank you for your support

That one went to 295 ft, but each time it climbed, there was a corresponding joystick input.
So no mystery in that flight.
or, if I do remember, this last one when P4P crashed:

There was a problem in this flight:

You can see that as the drone climbs (IMU height increases), the VPS sensor is giving a false indication of height and shows 1 ft or less.

Something was causing the VPS sensors to give false height data.
It could have been something blocking their downward view or a malfunction of the sensors.

Yes, the corresponding joystick input is because I was trying to stop climbing.
But it did not respond to my commands.

Yes, in this flight: DJI Flight Log Viewer - PhantomHelp.com
I am noticing that there is a problem on the VPS sensor.

What is your advice about that.
Is there something I can do myself to fix this problem and start to fly again?

PS: you have taken very beautiful photos of ships, which drone and camera are you using?

Perhaps this is the cause of the problem...
This:

Gimbal Guard Camera Lens Protection Plate for DJI Phantom 4 Pro Drone Carbon Fiber Landing Gear Protector

that I inserted to protect the landing legs of the drone...
Perhaps it has obstructed the VPS sensor?
Most probably yes.
I am sorry that I did not realise it before and I took too much of your time.
However they are working very well on landing hard but or I will find an other position more near the camera (without obstruct the lenses) or take it out.

I will now attempt to fly again : )

Thank you

But it did not respond to my commands.
That's not what I see in the data.
The joystick inputs correspond to the climbing.
Each time you pushed the left stick up and the drone climbed.
There was no uncommanded climbing in that flight ... it was quite normal.

Perhaps this is the cause of the problem...

Definitely yes.
You could also disable the VPS sensors in the app settings.
I never found the downward sensors particularly useful.

Thanks.
Most were with a Phantom 4 pro and I've started using a Mavic 3 this year too.
