How long can you point the camera at the sun?

if you do it for too long won't it damage it?

It is a matter of heating up the sensor in the camera. I have pointed my P3P at the sun durning a sunset long enough to take three sets of five pictures at different exposure settings. Probably took a couple of minutes to complete and I had no damage. I was concerned but all is well.
