getting altitude other than GPS

Is there another sensor measuring altitude (other than GPS)? If I want pretty accurate altitude data for a given still photo, what to do?

Use the takeoff elevation from Google Earth and then add the relative altitude, which is measured barometrically and included in the EXIF data.

Your Phantom does not use GPS to measure altitude because GPS is quite inaccurate for altitude.
Instead, it uses a barometric sensor.
What's the reason for needing an accurate altitude for a photo?

But it does use GPS for the default altitude field in the EXIF data.
 
Following - I am also interested in obtaining best accuracy in altitude/height AGL for photos. We are exploring whether or not we can use to measure heights of trees, etc.

Relative barometric altitude is going to be good to a few feet, at least over short time intervals.
