Has anyone tried this and so how does it work compared to the DJI Go app?

I have my eye on that too. I think it would work best with something like headplay goggles using HDMI. I think, once I get bored with the phantom, I can always load this software and get some headplays.

I used the beta and it works great. The real benefit is with goggles that use your phone for the display.

FPV Goggles (under FPV Camera app) does not require HDMI module nor Headplay goggles. It simply converts live video feed to side-by-side format showing on iPhone screen in conjunction with basically any VR headset (US$10-$50). Take a look of the comparison below.
