No - not the latest fad diet.

I know some of you fly with your GoPro 3's in their waterproof housing for protection in the event of flying trees or telephone poles or the ground suddenly coming up and hitting your stationary Phantoms :lol:

Anyway, just as a heads up - To save circa 40g in weight you can purchase the new Hero 3+ waterproof housing (or skeleton housing to save even more weight) and since the GP3 and the GP3+ are identical demensions the older GP3 will fit into the new housing !

I am only giving those people that fly with their protection on that option (some may not realize standard GP3 WILL actually fit in a GP3+ housing)

Personally I have never flown with protection (I don't like the feeling :lol: )

I arrived at the same conclusion, and am very happy with the protective lens there...lighter weight and cheaper to replace than a scratched waterproof housing. As a bonus, the protective lens will also hold the little round polarized/colored filters like these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AVQ ... UTF8&psc=1

For other new flyers who are trying to trim weight, note that the optional prop guards add up to 80g by themselves. I've been using them up till now, and they've saved my airframe from destruction on the two hard crashes I've had (functioned just like a car bumper), but now that I have more faith in my skills (and my Phantom's stability), it's definitely time to shave the grams.

I have already had one fly off. They really need to be secured to something.

I don't own one. Don't they secure with a set screw or by some other mechanical means? Don't tell me they're press-on or otherwise unsecured! That would be a crappy design for a camera whose primary use is to record sport activities.
