Oh cool! Let me know when you want to fly!!

Hi guys . from the broadhedsville area in the Poconos. I have a phantom 3 s . found a few places to fly locally. Beltsville state park in carbon county is drone friendly with a decent amount of open space. Shot some nice footage from there. Would love to follow this thread and find new places to fly. New to the hobby and really enjoy the birds eye view of our world

Cool guys, I actually work at Mt Airy Casino. If the weather ever gets nice I would be interested in meeting up to do some flying. I dont know anyone else that has a drone.

May be late to the thread, but I'm in Scranton and always looking for new places to fly...

I ventured to Lackawanna State Park yesterday.

To quote the state park website: Drone Restrictions: To protect park resources, limit conflict with other park users, and avoid safety and privacy liabilities, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), remotely piloted vehicles (RPV) or unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), all commonly referred to as DRONES, are only permitted on designated flying fields in six remote controlled airfield parks (Beltsville, Benjamin Rush, Hillman, Lackawanna, Prompton, and Tuscarora). The use of drones or other UAS is restricted at all other Bureau of State Parks locations.

I found a park ranger and asked where I could fly. The ranger was polite and directed me to a field in the park and told me I'd see R/C airplane signs. Those signs were posted that the field belonged to an R/C group and it was for AMA members only. Since nobody was there, and the ranger directed me there, I flew my drone.

When I returned home, I looked up the website and the AMA membership is $75 yr. Not in my budget. So...I called the park and was told that the public IS allowed to fly there at no charge.

Kind of confusing. I don't know if/when I'll be going back because I like to fly at different locations, but it's good information to know whether it's at Lackawanna or one of the other state parks designated for flying.

Skip, I would recommend airmap, it tells you where you can fly and has an auto authorization for the class D airspace AVP encompases. works quite well for auto authorization. I flew near my sons house in Taylor the other day.
