Drone shot down in New York!

Do you file a Disturbing the Peace charge for every loud muffler (car or motorcycle) that passed your driveway? Do you decide you don't like the passer by and shoot him/her? At a minimum, the gunman should be charged with replacing the drone on top of the illegal use of a weapon charge he already might face.

I hope the SCPD follow up on this, the shooter gets prosecuted and the Press follows up with the story- to get the word out to the public.
Wonder how low the drone was flying that this guy was able to take it down.

I'm an avid shooter, gun owner and a Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor for more than 37 years, and I agree with your assessment 100%.

It's good to know that they charged him with the "prohibited/illegal use of a firearm" as well as any civil authority matters that may arise from this incident. The "shooter" in this case isn't too bright . He may also lose his right to possess or purchase firearms or ammunition for up to five years.

On another note, I totally disagree with the writer of that article when he says "An angry Long Island man pulled a Clint Eastwood on a drone that was hovering over his St. James property." That is such a ridiculous statement to make, because Clint Eastwood would not do such a thing, and to assert otherwise is just irresponsible.

I think your “other note”is very subjective. You are referring to the roles he played. I could see his character having a barbecue with friends. A loud low flying drone comes flying over and interrupts everything. He pulls out a gun and shoots it down and gets on with his barbecue like nothing happened. Lol

You know, I think you're right about that. I was thinking more along the lines of those who he depicted in movies.

Good point.

The NY Post is a rag. It's not even fit for lining bird cages.

And the shooter should lose his firearms privileges permanently.

This happened about 20 miles from my house and I'm 100% sure he will be prosecuted. You would be prosecuted for any discharge of a firearm outside of a shooting range other than to stop a serious felony (muder, rape, etc.). Shooting at a drone because you don't want it flying over your property is going to be prosecuted in downstate NY.

It seems the Drones flight data showed that it didn't even
fly over the gunman's property.
Legal charges and buying a new replacement Drone sounds
fair to me.

Exactly! Clint would use his "44 Magnum.... the most powerful handgun in the world...."
