Do you guys use tracking devices or loud noise makers?

Make sure that it's a original one and not a clone!
I used to sell the original versions some time ago.
The original is from Xexun.

You can check the IMEI on http://www.gpstrackerchina.com/Products.html and see if it's an original version.

What's the difference between the original and the clone? (Beside the price and the IMEI)
How much do the original go for?

This is the GPS tracker I've seen used most for this (51 grams): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HFRA7A/ref ... FI6PDJESAR

The Amazon ad says it's discontinued but Garmin is still making them. There's also a guy on Ebay selling refurbs. I have one and it works great. You can set up geo-fences and there's prefs to notify you of power offs, low power - lots of options. Fisrt year is free then it's $45 year.

I have the Loc8tor stuck on the top of the battery door, The beep isn't very loud but tracking on the credit card size led reader seem ok. Spoke with Loc8tor as it states 150M ground but further if it decides to land higher.
£50 from Maplins

It's some time ago, but what I remember is that the clone's do not work over GPRS/Internet (used for live tracking)
Also. No firmware updates for a clone.

If it's only a SMS that you are after than you are okay I think.

Lot's more info about the TK102B on http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/foru ... ORUM_ID=36

Thanks, i've been testing it for the last two days and it seems to work well for my use. Accurate and convenient enough, i just need to call its number and it'll sms me a google map link.

Installation is easy too, I just velcro it to the bottom of my PV.

Did you remove the magnet that is inside the case?

My version (TK 102b) came with two battery covers. One with 4 coin-sized magnets embedded in it and one without. I use the one without magnets, but I didn't check whether there're any other magnets on the device.

My PV flew fine with it, I didn't notice any difference really.

It seems these guys came out with these trackers about 5 years ago but their practical range is pretty low.

I've also thought of maybe some sort of piezo buzzer or keychain beeper so that fly away Phantoms would be easier to find.

What do you guys use other than relying on FPV to know where you are?

I use this.Got it for Christmas. Actually works great. First 3 months free, then 8 bucks a month after. Use it for my quad and dirtbike/mountain bike solo riding as well for my wife's peace of mind. Very light.
