A 12" firework will go off at well over 1000 feet with the smaller versions doing 300 to 400 easy, I share your sentiment. I'm not so concerned about electrical storms though, providing I'm not flying in rain. It's far safer to send the drone out closer to the action than to be in the open with a tripod.
