Sorry for the delayed response.
I have only just read your post.

Firstly, I don't have an xbox but can you change the output video resolution from the Xbox HDMI port?
The resolution may be too high. If this is the case you will get audio but no video signal. The DJI Goggles can handle a maximum resolution of 1920 X 1080 (Full HD).

Secondly, check your cable is not faulty. Use another cable if you have one.

Thirdly, you may have a faulty pair of goggles if the first two suggestions did not work.

I get video plus sound when connecting through my phone.

You can connect your phone to the goggles? I have had a lot of problems with these goggles. One of the reasons I spent more on the RE edition was so I could watch movies, etc.
