Can I install gimbal without having to open quad

Yea not looking for pitch just steadiness of the gimbal. If I get the jst wire, does one end of the jst go to drone the other to the battery and they little connector to the gimbal for power? I'm sorry I'm looking to buy one and really can't find info or video on how the whole setup with the jst works. If anyone has a pic I would appreciate so I know what I'm looking for when I make the guy of gimbal and jst
