Black horizontal lines while facing the sun

I have not seen this before today but I was flying towards the general direction of the sun and was getting these crazy flickering black lines, both in video and still shots. It seams like whenever I turned away from the sun it never showed up but always when I started getting close to looking at it, is this normal?

Agreed. That's exactly what it is. A lens shade will take care of that.
