I'm old enough to remember when some of the squiggles in that road were a bit tighter that they are now!!
I first went up to Caithness in June 1958 and remember going to Wick, Melvich & Reay in my Uncle Jon's little Austin (4 adults + 2 children) to visit various places & seeing some whalers in Scrabster, sheltering from a belt of adverse weather over the previous few days. Yet for our fortnight in in Thurso, the weather was fantastic - sunny - Dad's workmates didn't believe him when he told them of the sun, when it'd been raining & flooding for the pit fortnight at Skeggy (Skegness miners holiday camp).
Since then, I've passed through every few years as I love Orkney!
Hey!! I'm rabbiting along about my previous life!!
