Although I think the white transmitter would be just fine for the flying I will be doing, I could not resist the temptation to buy a third party tx. (it will be handy for my next quad though)
Slowly I get into mixing, expo, dual rates, curves etc...
I guess you can get further away if you want, afaik the xjt frsky I get with my 9xr will go beyond 1,5 km, and with the right antennas much further as that. And there is telemetry of course.
But, what else can be useful?
My guess a curve on the rudder channel would give me some smoother pans..
And less useful, but kinda fun would be to make the Phantom more behave like an airplane, mixing aileron with rudder...
What extra functionality do you use on your third party tx that makes flying a Phantom "better" or more useful?
