I am using two batteries for my Phantom 3 Advanced when I fly my drone and I have a brand new unused spare battery for future use or sale. This new unused battery is being stored for almost 3 years now. Is this bad? I am afraid that if I regularly charge/discharge it like what I've been doing with my 2 used batteries, it will be considered 2nd hand already once I decide to sell it. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

What's it's condition now? Does it show a charge level? Have u ever charged it?

It’s considered a three year old battery no matter what you do with it.

If you haven’t touched it for three years there is a good chance it may have self discharged low enough for the cells to be cactus.

I will try to charge it to know if it's still working or not. But I was just thinking, all new batteries in the stores which are for sale, do the sellers regularly monitor the status of those batteries? They are brand new but may already be old.

If its gone into hibernation, which is very likely, you will need to follow these instructions exactly:

Thats a good question and I've wondered that myself, when you buy a new battery, you really have no idea how long its been sitting "on the shelf" and would any seller check on them periodically? Since the batteries keep track of how many times they've been charged would a seller top up the charge if needed and risk a brand new battery showing that's its been charged once or twice? Hard to say....

All the batteries I have bought from Best Buy(5) have always had at least one led lit and never had any issues with them.

Next new battery you buy - check its cycle life in the APP ... you will see more than 1 cycle used ... even DJI admit to cycling batterys before they go out for sale.
