My old eyes can't read much of the P2V data on my iPhone. The battery data, number of satellites and 'radar' screen and a blur unless I put on my readers and bring the screen in close. Solution: iPad Mini. I bought one and it's much easier to see.
I've seen a lot of DIY solutions for mounting an iPad or iPad Mini to the transmitter, but the iPad/iPad Mini is both heavy and expensive, a combination that makes my wary of many of the DIY solutions I've seen.
My friend Mike works in a state of the art machine shop here on campus and has helped me with several photography related projects previously so I bought a iPad Mini shell with a ball head at Amazon for $25, knowing that he could come up with a great way to mount it to the DJI transmitter. Here's what I bought from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Grifiti-Nootle-iP ... +ipad+mini
There is also a model for the iPad: http://www.amazon.com/Grifiti-Nootle-Ip ... +ball+head
And there is a model for the iPad Air: http://www.amazon.com/Grifiti-Nootle-re ... ipod+mount
I wanted the mount for the transmitter that is 100% reversible (no holes to drill no sticky tape or modification of the original DJI phone mount), it should center the iPad mini left to right (I don't want the weight of the tablet to be off to one side), the transmitter with the new mount must still be able to fit in a standard case/backpack transmitter cutout with little or no modification and most importantly, is must be very secure so it supports any size tablet, even with a sunshade attached.
Here's what Mike came up with, I owe Mike big time!
