Looking into the apple mini 4 to operate my phantom 3 standard.any advice on this or other issues

It's a great device. You're only issue is going to be attaching it to the remote controller. It will not fit in the clip.

Need larger screen then a phone can provide thats y i was looking at mini 4 as an option. Have you ever actually used the first option for the larger tablet that you listed

No. The iPad Mini 4 runs DJI GO like a champ.
