Ive been itching to fly down town but haven't because of the wierdness calling the air traffic control tower to get permission..

just a heads up , check out this youtube video, this kid crashed his inspire 1 in nearly that same spot, flew behind a building lost signal and it got stuck on the roof there

my office is on the top floor @ 3rd and Central AT&T Building, been trying to get permission to fly from the roof of the building its like getting an act of congress......hehe

If you go by the "community standards" rule stated in the law you can go over 400ft as long as you abide by AMA safety standards. when i was planning out a downtown flight a while back, i figured the only safe way would be to set RTH to 400ft minimum probably 450ft to be safe, what altitude did you have to fly to to get the shots? the stated height of the building is 351ft , i wasn't sure if 400ft would be sufficient., we should chat , would love to find out more about your experience. like i said i chickened out after the initial planning.

Looks like the kid lost transmission as he went behind the Hyatt. Inspire probably tried to head home and ran right into the other building. When I was flying I had line of sight at all times. Even going around the buildings, I could see the lights.

i think there's a misinterpretation about the 400ft rule, i tend to be pragmatic about it ,some are sticklers about, because they don't really understand the law. its safer to fly higher than 400 in a downtown scenario if you lost my number its 5059077264
