Said it before, and I'll say it again - I'm a noob

I've been reading through all the various posts about extending the range on the P2V ... but the more I read, the more confused I get.

It seems my LHCP brain is fighting with my RHCP brain and it's causing my dbi extender to do pinwheels in an omnidirectional fashion

Not wanting to hijack anybody's thread with noob questions, I'm wondering if there is an online primer somewhere that can give me the basic information I need to follow these threads?

Sometimes I know how you feel .... just start out slow and read read read ..... some threads are replicated so can be confusing.

The Antenna range situation, apart from some guys experimetation in extreme ranges, seem to now have been covered by the intro of new products specifically for P2 and P2V's by these guys - http://horizonfpvantennas.mybigcommerce.com/

LHCP and RHCP just mean left hand and right hand they don't mix

If you don't want to touch the pv2 then get a LHCP antenna on the repeater

If you plan on adding antennas to the pv2 then it doesn't matter if you get left or right they just have to match

I got a LHCP helical cause I didn't plan on modding the pv2

As far as the gimbal is concerned, I think there will be more options coming soon, so I'm going to wait just a bit longer before I make that purchase.

Thanks for sharing - answered several questions, but gave me a few (dozen) more

In the vid, he says that the "circular" probably should be called "corkscrew". Does that mean it's the same as what people here refer to as "helical"? And the RHCP/LHCP is merely referring to the direction of the "screw"? Can somebody briefly explain why the 2 can't be mixed? Is it something as simple as a signal incompatibility (if there is such a thing), or is it something more sinister?

Since I'm not looking to beat any distance records but merely extend my range a bit (the other side of my property - no more than 2500 ft from my "base" in any one direction), my gut is telling me that I'd probably want something like the "circular" that he refers to. It sounds like as long as my TX is pointed in the general direction of my Vision, I'd be fine.

I can completely understand where you are coming from. I know that most do not like to dive into the 17page long threads, but it must be done. There is a wealth of knowledge that can be obtained by taking the time and sifting through the information. The only way to true knowledge is research, research, research.

Most threads lead back to just a couple that are, unfortunately, a tad bit on the EXTREMLY long side. I would suggest to find a time when you have awhile to sit and read and start digging. You will find that you get more involved and want more information as you learn what all this means.

The 6.5 turn helical from fpvlr is good for 3000 ft by itself
The parasitic disc has also been tested to 3000 ft and is smaller
No need to mod the pv2 to get the range your wanting

You're right, of course. And I have read through the threads here. But I guess my problem was that I didn't know what the terms meant, so I was having a hard time deriving the meaning of what I was reading.

However, having watched the above video, parts of what I've previously read are starting to make sense.

I started a new thread because I didn't want to hijack an existing thread with low-level kindergarten questions

And yes - rest assured that I'll be re-reading those other threads. But only after my head stops spinning ... too much diversity polarization last night, I think

Thanks for the info and the pic. Based on what I saw in the video, and what I've been able to deduce elsewhere it seems like that will be the direction I'm heading. However, I might have a look at the parasitic (simply because I like the name LOL).
