Another polythene bag near miss.

Football-sized drone flown 20m from Heathrow-bound plane - BBC News Reading through this, I couldn't help thinking this is absolute nonsense. A 'football sized' quadcopter that can reach 11,000ft altitude. Really? Sounds to me they had another near miss with a polythene bag.

Yup, and that's with the range stepped down to 2.4 miles for European TX power levels :-(

That's without the controller only using your phone through wifi. The quoted range with controller is over 4 miles.

Farmers can still obtain a shotgun licence for pest control on their land. If police received a report of one of these types misusing this privelage, I reckon that shotgun license would be suspended by the end of the day.

2.4GHz and 5.8GHz jammers would surely see off any drone. There's a guy on YouTube who shows how to make a 2.4GHz jammer from eBay video transmitters which fits in a cigarette packet.
