An app update wont brick the drone, if its android you can download the earlier app from apkmirror etc then just sideload it

If its the Pro or Advanced and its not been used for a long period there is a good chance that the video feed will have failed, this is a common issue sadly. on the plus side if its the Pro it can be repaired (albeit with a lot of work) but if its the advanced then it cant.

Have you tried formatting the card in the drone using the app?

You can get boards that fit across the bottom of the landing gear, they are designed to prevent the camera getting bashed if you land heavy on rocky ground, you could fit one of those and then mount the laser on that, only downside is that you would need to hand launch each time

If its an IOS device its limited to whatever version is on the app store, unlike Android phones you cant choose what version, as a sidenote i have an old mini 4 on IOS12 and the latest version just crashes out when launched but on my iphone 13 with ios 18 it works fine

Never update a working quad from that particular era, they are prone to problems which will mean more time spent here that could be spent flying
