Local water tower I wanted to fly around to see how the 5 mile from airport process worked. Called the control tower and they were very nice, I didn't get any static from them at all...

It sure is! I have spent a lot of time in your area taking non aerial shots of waterfalls. Since getting the P3S I've been trying to see what waterfalls I could revisit with the drone..
I had to call a tower yesterday to tell them i was a hobbyist and where i was and wanted to fly with the flight times and how high i intended to fly and for how long....they were very nice and even told me that the only problem was going to be the high winds....well off i went to take the drone UP...the ground winds was erratic how ever the winds at 50 feet were terrible....I brought it back really low and kept it their and then only flew back n forth across the field....Of all my flights that was One with the most wind...that quad was doing all it could do.to hover in one place it amazed me and my grandson too how well it did that....experience gained ! and i will not fly in winds like that ever again !
The only problem I had at this tower was a LOT of electrical interference. I flew it down towards the base of the tower and lost signal (first time for me). But RTH kicked in no problem...

Water absorbs 5.8ghz, like a sponge. So that is not unusual. Reflections from the tower as well as that, prolly makes it a bit of a challenge.
