What battery charger to get

Use a good charger that can do 1 battery and then use a parallel charging board.
It's what I use and it works fine. I can charge 6 batteries at the same time.
 
I just ordered a Parallel board.

I have 6 of the 2200 Phantom Batteries.

How big of a charger do I need to hook all 6 to the Parallel board

Would this do the job with the

That one can put out 50W, which at 12.6V is roughly 4A. At 4A, you can charge 6 batteries in about 3 hours. Some chargers have an automatic time or capacity cutout (my B6AC is 5000mAh and 2 hours).

How big a charger depends on how quickly you want to charge them. To charge six batteries in an hour, you'll need three of those chargers, or a single charger rated at 150W.
 
Or just don't charge all six if you need only one or two.

I done some flights yesterday at an event, I have 3 batteries for flight, after my first two flights I took my ammo/charging box and put the two used batteries on charge. had somebody keeping an eye on it, and the generator etc as well, while I went and flew with the 3rd battery. Another half an hour after I landed from the 3rd flight I had two full batteries ready for more flying

I've also go the Imax B6, but I bought the 12v DC model and an external AC adaptor so I can charge from a car or mains power. I like the idea of 5A but that's a little to fast for only a battery or two lol. I like the ability to set different charge profiles for "fast charge" "normal" and "balance" etc
 
For $200 there are several choices that will do multiple batteries. The HiTec X4 that I use is essentially four isolated chargers so any kind of battery in any state can be charged, discharged, balanced or set up for storage. This is great, and it also works off my car battery in the field. The only downside, and it applies to all chargers, is that they can't accommodate the many charging and balancing plug types. So make sure you ask to have XT yellow charge connectors and XH balance plug connectors. Otherwise you'll be doing a bit of soldering.
 
Hi, I have the HiTec X1 like the pictured above. Unfortunately it doesn't have a compatible plug for the phantom batteries. Are the phantom plugs standard and would you be able to pic them up at a local rc store?

yes the plug is interchangeable. however the Hitec X1 will only charge one battery at a time, up to 6 cells, the hitec X 4 will do 4 batteries at up to 6 cells each, or the Tenergy TB6AC4 of same values. don't confuse 6 cells being 6 batteries, in which they are, but attached together to form one. 3 cells for the 11.1v
parallel board have benefits as well as drawbacks, read article and see if you want to venture the risks.

I've been using the cheap Accucel6 with a parallel charging board for awhile, and have been quite satisfied.
works well for less than $50
but I'm definitely envious of those larger chargers that can balance charge 4 different batteries at a time!
 
I use the PowerLab 6 with MPA parallel adapter. I can charge my 6 3S 2200 packs in 15 minutes.

if you're charging them up in 15 minutes, you're far exceeding the recommended charging rate of 2A , which will shorten the live's of your Lipo's.
when I charge my 6 batteries in parallel, I set my charger at 6A, takes over an hour, but at least it's less damaging to the batteries
 
Totally safe to charge as high as 3C, no loss of life to the packs. Only requirement is the packs must have a minimum discharge rate of 12C to charge that fast, which mostly all lipos have these days.

Yes,. tho I'd say there's a difference between "safe" and "recommended", if you're charging your batteries in 15 minutes, you're pumping a considerable amount into those batteries in a relatively short time, (which I imagine is even greater than 3A)
and at that rate they might heat up, which is not good.
even DJI's own manual makes no mention of charging at 3A and says to charge at 2A. (tho of course that's DJI).
New batteries are much more capable, but the general rule is if you want your batteries to last longer, don't charge them too fast.
(the old rule was not to charge at over 1C (which would be 2.2A for a 2200mah battery).

Personally, unless I'm in a rush, I seldom charge at over 2A per battery, often times going lower (as it's easier for me to charge 6 batteries at 1A than to do three at 2a and the change to another three batteries.
 
I was just looking at (and thinking of purchasing) this product which is capable of charging up to 6 LiPo's simultaneously. Seems to have gotten pretty rave reviews, and it's cheap by comparison to stuff I've ALREADY bought in support of this hobby. Opinions?

Each pack is charging at 6.6 amps (39.6 amps total output from the PL6). The packs never get warm during charge. You can charge slower if you like. This is also a DC charger so use in the field is not a problem.

Over $200.00??? Yowzer... Too steep for my blood. Would parallel charging be more cost-effective if you only own 4 or 5 batteries???
 
Remember, it also allows you to charge in the field. Charging 4 batteries at a time makes the world of difference to me. The cost is high but it's not a knockoff Chinese charger, it's built very well.

After sitting around 1/2 the morning waiting for various battery packs to charge with the stock charger supplied with the Phantom, I finally reached the point where a "final" large $$$ expenditure seemed cheap by comparison to my impatience. I just dumped what I hope will be my final monies into this hobby for a while. I ordered the Tenergy TB6AC4. It seems like it will do everything I need. Charge at home, charge in the field. Four batteries at a time should be plenty. I also have one parallel harness so I guess I could push it to five in a pinch.
