Videos and IMovie

I am having a problem getting my video into iMovie for editing. I have tried several converters and when I try to transfer to IMovie the message is files not supported. I have the Q500

What format is you're original footage? .mp4 or .mov?

Try converting your footage to .mov or mpeg-4

Well I have been trying a couple different converters all say files not supported.

Try handbrake, its free. Convert it to MPEG4 in video tab.
