TX USB port V.S. no port?

This topic may be covered somewhere, but I can't find it. I have been purchasing P2Vs for restoration, (replacing noisy motor bearings, cameras, parts and electrical, etc.), and have received Txs with and without USB ports. Is the USB port a newer version? I have experienced no problems with the non-port version, but have had to calibrate the controls on several port versions. Just curious which version is more desirable.

The non usb port version is the early edition but it has usb port inside.
Later version has it built in to the TX case for easier access. Both work the same.
