With the airport so close the entire city is basically one big no fly zone

This. It's class B airspace to the surface which requires ATC clearance.

is it permitted to fly over there?

Don't check your batteries but bring them as hand luggage on the plane. Lipo batteries are not allowed as checked luggage.

Its a no go, the grand canyon is a national park, i went there this april and got stopped before i could even launch and hoover dam is soooo crowded and windy that you either get shot out before ever lauching or be afraid of to many people around or too windy, been there done that

cant fly it in vegas, cant fly it in national parks, I bet you cant fly them in high density places like manhattan etc

So as I said, almost everywhere.

A bit of common sense as to where you should and shouldn't fly should give you the answer.

so not true, to say "the entire city is basically one big no fly zone" would be to say Vegas is no larger than a 5 mile radius. I live here and fly all of the time on either side of the strip. just not in the 5 mile radius of the of McCarran airport. We have 1 large and a few smaller airports. I have flown near the 2 of the smaller airports as well as the many heliports, I called them up, left a vm or spoke to someone and flew. Please do not be discouraged by this post I am replying to. I know this post is old but could not just not say something.
