I crashed my phantom 3 4K the other day. now it won't take off anymore. when I slide the auto take off. It brings up the settings. and when I try to manually take off it does the same. please help. I'm not trying to pay a arm & a leg to send it in to get serviced.

Is that all it does? Brings up the settings? Are there any other messages that come up?

yes. sorry I'm new to this.
No need to apologise. Where do you have the Phantom when you are getting these messages? Make sure it is away from any potential source of interference, including metal structures, reinforced concrete, power lines etc. If you are sure you're nowhere near anything like that, then try to do a compass recalibration, and then try again.

Ok. I'm at home right now and there's nothing but a lot of cars around. But I've flown here plenty of times. I don't understand. but I'm about to go find a big open field to try it.

I have had that message so removed metal objects from my pockets, mobile phone and smartwatch left in car far away from AC.

So those things will make your motors not start at all? it won't take off at all? & can you calibrate it on the ground?

When I have a crash, I like to take the top off and go over everything with a magnifying glass to look for dislodged plugs, broken antennas (incl. the GPS antenna). And while I'm at it, check the plastic frame for cracks. Check the props of course. Check everything for any kind of visible disruption. That's the first thing I do whether I think it'll fly or not.

Have you tried a compass calibration. Theres a demo video here:

If you try that and it still happens, then it's possible the compass module is broken. Luckily if it is, they're not too expensive and not too difficult to replace. Of course this assumes nothing else is broken.

All been answered above.
Let us know how you get on in the open field, without your watch etc. ;)

So you flew without phone or tablet connected or raced back to your car once drone was in the air? Assume you flew as you wouldn't be able calibrate the compass without having your phone or tablet close to the drone

You don't need a mobile device to calibrate the compass. You can use the S1 switch instead.

In fact, you don't need a mobile device at all. Chuck it in the can and you can fly all day and have a ball.

This is very true, but as the tx has lots of metal bits you still have to leave it yards away, toggle, dash back to drone etc :)
You also can't use follow me or other fun gimmicks, need to stay in same spot or return to home will be return to where we started. Can't mess around with the camera, all the joy of filpping between stills and video. In fact the whole point of it essentially being a flying camera platform is gone.

well guys. I tried to calibrate it in a open field. and still the same problem. Won't take off and the compass error is still coming up. It's saying I'm around some type of magnet or something.

Yea I tried all that. I even had my wife hold the remote yards away while I hold the drone. Still nothing. it's still saying something about the magnets around. so when I get home I'm going to take it apart and inspect the inside of it.

Great news guys! After taking it apart. I found out the compass cable came loose. after reconnecting it and calibrating everything. the bird flew like a champ. I really want to thank all of you guys for helping. If it wasn't for you all I would've been out of lots of money taking it to get it repaired. thank you. thank you. thank you again!

That's excellent news! Glad you got it back in the air :-)
