After 4 years of purchase, my Phantom 4's battery suddenly swells.

Of course I threw it away and ordered a new one from the DJI site.

The question is... what did I do wrong ?... I have always stored the battery with about 65% charge...

It's just a function of the battery getting old

You did nothing wrong, 4 years is what we got on our batteries also, make sure you dont poke a hole in those batteries ,
I dropped one of the batteries in the garbage and poked a hole in it and had 20 minutes of Black smoke pouring out into garage and had
it been the house , it would been terrible...

Why poke hole AFTER throwing in garbage??
Exactly how was hole poked -- depth, angle, size?

Not advising others to do same, but my cell phone repairer
with 20 yrs battery experience, pricked JUST my original P4P+
battery vinyl cover at shallow severe angle with pin ~10 mos
ago & no issues since, 20+ brief flights to 100m & down again...
Battery is a bit pudgy, but not swelled...
(I shoot photos, no rough sporting flights)
