Very safe. Start slow, simple missions. Give yourself extra altitude as you learn. Understand RTH. Give yourself space, fly slower at first. In other words, start slow, learn, and you will do fine. Get fancy though, high speed, close to obstacles, and you most likely will make some costly mistakes.
