Once the government gets word of this, they'll eventually make it compulsory that you register your name with the state in order to fly.

Not all bad, maybe you could find stolen or lost drone? If you are obeying law, then not a real issue I would think. It does pose a problem for those that wish to free fly, in areas that are not proper or under conditions that are dangerous or questionable. Maybe it will keep things from escalating further and allow us to fly, under the direction of the FAA and its recommendations or regulations.
Having been a Certified Pilot for many years, I don't mind the FAA or its regs really, they are mostly common sense. But, if we can keep from forcing them to react and make law and regs by just having this, that would be a good deal I think.
