Importing KML vs. KMZ??? Help

How do I import a KMZ file? I was under the impression that KML and KMZ were similar enough to use interchangeably? One works with GE and one works with Litchi. Obviously, I am incorrect. Is there anyway to import the KMZ file into my Litchi mission??? Or do I need to use the KMZ file in GE and only show a client the "virtual tour"?

Both work for Google Earth and Litchi only accepts KML.
The KMZ file is a compressed KML file.

KMZ includes more geographic information. KML contains only placemark information.
