He was arrested and detained for 48 hours (Long weekend until released on Monday.), but no charges were filed.

As you stated, he was suspected of a crime _and arrested_. This supports my post.

If it were me i would just let the local police know you will be flying your drone around X time at X location incase they receive weird reports and panic sets in.
