HI! Im new here! proud owner of a P4.

Is anyone here using a Late MBP 2011?
Trying to playback 4k but is really chopy, i tried diferents players, vlc, qt, its all the same.
MPB 2011 Specs.
15" Quad core processor (Inter Core i7 2.5 GHz 2670QM)
16 GB of RAM 1600MHz DDR3
Crucial SSD 256Gb second SSD PNY 120Gb.
Integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 512 MB of VRAM)
Discrete graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB of VRAM)

Maybe some seting or codec, i thought this MBP could handle 4k.

Thanks, but newers computers with low specs can handle 4k, thats why im asking. Like new Macbooks, with only 2 cores and 8gb of RAM.
Just asking if someone here have relative same specs and if they can handle 4k or not.
Thanks!

I had a fully loaded out 2011 MBP. Couldn't handle 4k.

Fully loaded i7 2011.

I'm on a mid-2015 retina 15 inch fully loaded out now, 2.5 ghz i7, 16 gig 1600 ram, Intel Iris Pro 1536mb video card. Runs a lot better.
Same specs as my iMac, which handle 4k ok.
But the specs of the MBP are good inough.... well, time to change it.

Yeah, unfortunately, the integrated 3000 gfx hasn't aged well. Sorry to be that guy, but my wife's $500 media PC plays back 4k just fine :D.

In all seriousness though, like kman said, 1080 would be your best bet until an upgrade, 2k may still push it a bit.

Thks guys,

Alright, made a bench with Cinebench in my two Macs, my IMac late 2013 with a DC i5 which handle 4k OK, and to my MBP with QC i7. The results are that the MBP got better results AND have a discrete GPU.
So I assume is not the CPU, neither the memory because both are 1600Mhz.
May be is the SSD, or the SATA3 in the MBP.

Had a mac mini that I could only watch 1080p so I built a hackintosh... Now I can fast-forward through them fluidly if I want, and I don't have to worry with proxies when editing.
