hobbyist, P4P+;
I want to photograph FL largest solar rooftop system;
I just read it is atop Badia Spices, Sweetwater FL;
Google maps measures it as 3.86 mi from westernmost
MIA runway edge;

(see red tag left edge of map, not the shopping tag center of map)

Is hobbyist distance from major US airports still a strict 5 miles?
Advice appreciated. regards.

Not an American flyer. My understanding is that it is 5 miles in the U.S. But strangely, when I look at DJI's geo-fencing restrictions for that location (Geo Zone Map - Fly Safe - DJI), although being well within 5 miles of Miami International, it only shows there being an altitude restriction (150 metres!?). The authorisation (no fly) zone around the airport appears to be much closer in. Perhaps someone else can enlighten?

Thanks for response!
That would be great if correct.
I only need go up ~100 ft.

Download the B4UFLY app and put that location in the app using the Search (magnifying glass icon) it will let you know if you need to get LAANC clearance. The 5 mile rule went out the end of 2018.

Here is screen shot from B4UFLY

Another from Air Control where you can apply for LAANC clearance

You need to have a Laanc app. If you do, you can just go to the mission site and it will tell you and let you get authorization on the spot.
You also need to check the site on the DJI fly safe website you may need something from them to
