As I said, you are over my head. I take off after the GPS has determined my home location, then I fly manually to where ever. Except for fixing my home GPS location, how does the GPS or the compass have anything to do with my flying manually. Then I activate RTH and it comes home to the GPS...

In response to a question about compass calibration in a recent thread, the answer was, if the drone doesn't rotate in hover, the compass doesn't need to be calibrated. Wouldn't the drone be programed to maintain a constant compass heading? Even if the compass was off it wouldn't make any...

On RTH I sometimes have to go to S1 and manually land my P3S to avoid obstacles. If Failsafe is activated due to loss of signal, can I still manually land, assuming signal is restored by the time it gets to the vicinity of home.

I am well aware of the inaccuracy of GPS. I take off in a tight space. If the RTH is off more than 15' I'd either be in a tree or in the Chesapeake Bay. Fortunately I have S1 and I know how to fly a drone.

I originated this thread. I am now convinced that RTH is by GPS and the compass has nothing to do with it. My conclusion re. the RTH drifting off then being restored after calibration the compass is that it was a coincidence.

I tried to fly my P3S today. The motors wouldn't start and I got a message that the battery temp. was below 15C, which is 59F. I've flown e-planes with Li-Po batteries at temps in the lower 40sF, if not colder. Why such a restriction? What happens if I warm the battery to above 15C to start...
