My Phantom Ditched into the Salty River

You sprayed it with WD40? WTH for? That is what probably killed it. I dumped mine into a river (fortunately only in about 3 feet of water) retrieved it and let it dry out thoroughly (like weeks). It recovered completely, even the camera. The only thing that did not survive was the flight...

    Odd behavior from my quad

The reason is, the bird still thinks it is flying. Ever notice how the altitude shifts around a little when hovering? If that happens after it has settled to the ground, returning the stick to to center, says hover... until the detected altitude drifts a little. Then it takes off. You have to...

Can iPad Mini be used for DJI VISION App?

The reason it says that, is the app was intended to be used on the iPhone. It will work fine on an iPad, but it is not really optimized for the iPad. I used a iPad mini with mine, until I got an iPhone 6plus.

    Phantom dead

That is correct. Since my original post though, I was able to get one of the four batteries to charge. The others will not start, even when turning them on first. They are indicating near full charge (three lights on, one flashing), but the phantom is still dead. I have not had a chance to...

    Phantom dead

The power contacts are fine, and clean, as well as the small battery comm contacts. By fussing around a bit, I did get one my four batteries to start charging. But when it completed, the Phantom is still dead. Guess I am going to have to perform some minor bird surgery, open it up and see if...

    Phantom dead

Ok, i admit it. I have not flown for several weeks. But prior I have enjoyed many flights, with no issues whatsoever. I wanted to try it today with my shiny new iPhone 6, but alas the bird simply will not power on. The batteries were left at roughly 75% charge, but they will not start...

    Who is using an IPAD?

The Retina also has roughly 4 times the performance of the non-Retina. I have had both, but traded in my non-retina for a retina mini, so no way to compare. But the extra CPU power HAS to help, I would think.

iPad Mini Vision APP no longer available

It is because the APP was designed for the iPhone. No iPhone only app is ever recommended for use on the iPad, unless there is a separate version specifically for the iPad (often delivered together). It would certainly be nice if DJI created something specifically for the iPad, but so far...

    Green/Red flashing lights

That would mean it is Naza mode, and does not have GPS lock (less than 5 sats). If you are indoors, that may be correct. If you are outdoors with a clear view of the sky, give it a minute. It will come around. See http://www.pattayadays.com/2014/03/naza ... -2-vision/

out of the box, one of the motors runs hot

Hmmm... I noticed the slightly stiff problem on mine (right front), after I had a few flights on it. I attributed it to an initial hard landing. Maybe it was that way from new. Oh well, it doesn't matter because I replaced all four motors with the T-Motor Anti-Gravity motors. Very sweet...

    First experience.......? Not Good

Boy that was bold!... I didn't say a word to a soul. Then I drove 700 miles, way out of state for my first flight (business trip). If it went badly, I would just keep the embarrassing moment to myself. Fortunately it went fine, and I have enjoyed showing it off to a few family members since.

    Do others share these concerns?

You already spent the money, the cash is gone. If you lose the gear, you are not out any more, ...unless you decide to continue. I enjoy flying and taking pictures, but I certainly do not consider it an "investment." Rather it is/was an "expense" for fun. Kinda like spending 1500 on a vacation.

Should I open her up...OK I did and survived..

Re: Should I open her up...?? First of all, make sure you actually need it. Many do not. I suspect later ones do not. Mine was purchased in May and came with 3.00 firmware. It has always been just fine. [firmware version has nothing to do with the problem, just establishing a rough date frame...

    Cant Arm Phantom

Read the manual. There are a number of error conditions that are designed to prevent flight (will not arm). Most likely an IMU calibration is called for. That requires an absolute level surface.

    Phantom or naza mode

I would not recommend indoor flight. The Phantom requires a good GPS signal to fly right. That is generally not available indoors.
