Annoying your P3 spare batteries don't fit though.
No reason to assume Phantoms will keep going indefinitely with ever bigger numbers.(just wait for Phantom 13)
Maybe a final Phantom SE (Special Edition) with significantly improved new camera.
And another revision of battery design so you have...
It's possible the accelerometer sensor got stuck in the impact.
There have been some cases where a sharp whack will free it - e.g. palm of hand on the battery.
No, but provided you aren't too distant to stay connected and restart your home point and altitude are gong to be reset at the higher point.
It doesn't take the reading from your controller but the onboard barometer.
I think there's too much paranoia about this, though it makes sense to try to charge in a saf(er) place such as a tiled area with nothing close by which could easily ignite.
The charging process is not without risk but like any other battery once the cells are 'full' no more current can flow...
One way - though impractical in most places - would be land at a known safe spot higher up - and restart.
Even then you risk losing signal once you set down though might be possible if you were still reasonably close.
It's just the charger has one of those 8 style leads which plugs in and you might already have a US lead in that style - since a lot of things these days have at least two alternatives included.

With a gimbal and gopro-like camera you'll struggle to get 5 minutes on the P1 and the extra weight will make it really sluggish as the motors are much less powerful than later models.
I'd look at P3 coming up little used as others trade in for Mavics.
In 6 months time something new will come...
When you open it that ribbon cable is seriously tricky to reconnect again.
Unless something else is obviously loose I'd suspect that not fully clipped in first.
