P2V+ flying without range extender

Hi everyone, I have a P2V+ with no camera but have been flying using app and smartphone for telemetry after some simple rewiring.
Can I fly without the range extender?

Yes you can - at least that is what was implied in the manual from what I remember reading. The manual has cautioned that your mobile device can pick up the 2.4 signal coming from the Phantom itself. However, the range will be extremely limited and probably not worth doing.

Of course, you can also fly wonderfully old school with no app.
