Does the Gimble have the ability to rotate without rotating the P4. I find that I lose orientation spinning the P4 to get the shot I want.

There are two modes for gimbal: Follow and FPV. Though you don't have direct control on gimbal roll movements but you can have different experience with these modes. Try yourself to set in DJI Go app.
