Bitrate calculations and implications for best quality

Thanks for the insight! Look forward to your final conclusions! And thanks for sharing with the community!

Phantom 4 PRO: force FCC mode

Can be done via a modded dji go app. Google is your friend "dji force fcc mode".

Bitrate calculations and implications for best quality

Great table. However, if you don't mind my asking... What's your subjective takeaway after testing all this?

Wrong/inaccurate NFZ - cannot take off - what to do?

Although also 2x the cost and w/ 1/4 the control range.... :-\ Otherwise, it does look quite interesting though.

Bitrate calculations and implications for best quality

So much this... there are TONS of "reviews" of the P4P talking about the "smaller file size" the h265 codec enables. Complete BS, as any P4P owner and attest to. It's like the reviewers just Googled "h265 vs h264" and put down a sentence summarizing the first couple search results. ~~~ To be...

Bitrate calculations and implications for best quality

Just to toss my $0.02 in... I think h265 produces *slightly* better video, as in, less blur/artifacts/etc. However, the difference is so small as to almost not be noticeable. In addition... I've noticed a higher rate of corruption/issues/etc when using h265 over h264. In fact, it's to the...

DJI Geo should be completely scrapped

Just disable NFZs entirely via firmware or modded app methods. For the moment, that's the simplest solution. I like having the Geo stuff as a feature, but it definitely should have a proper "off" switch.

    made some RF discoveries today

If you watch the video I posted a while back screen capturing my session with the RF Explorer, you'll see it's trivial to capture both the controller uplink signal and the video transmission signal at the same time. In fact, by using the channel hack, you can move the video feed to outside the...

Phantom 4 Pro Video File Size?

Do some Googling on "mezzanine codecs". Some quick background for you: - h264 and h265 (aka, HEVC) are heavily compressed codecs, in that the image data for each frame is "compressed", something akin (in concept) to compressing a RAW image into a JPEG. - A codec like Cineform or DNxHD are...

Phantom 4 Pro Video File Size?

The difference is bitrate. Quite simple. Resolution doesn't determine file size, bit rate does. And if you're having issues working with the files, don't further compress them. Uncompress them into DnXHD or Cineform, then load into Resolve or whatever.

    made some RF discoveries today

I did actually try changing transmission bandwidth/bitrate/whatever slider in Go 4, and did not notice any difference in the video channel width nor in the amplitude. I didn't test it exhaustively/closely at the time, but I'll take another look at it. I need to break out the RF Explorer again...

Phantom 4 Pro high wind velocity

You can actually tweak the threshold values for this warning via firmware option editing... But that's really for advanced users only. Otherwise, yes, it's overly sensitive. Instead of relying on the warnings, keep an eye on your gimbal readout (not camera gimbal but aircraft gimbal) in the...

    Storage of video files

True that the chain is only strong as the weakest link. And true that major corporations do mess up. What's far more likely though... is that you eff up. Verizon also does not have the best track record for security, or generally highly ethical and cogent behavior, so they're not a great...

    Storage of video files

Exactly. S3 is probably the single largest data-store on Earth and has never been hacked. As you say... companies like Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, etc... take security VERY seriously. If your data is compromised, it's almost certainly a fault of the customer, not of the service. S3 also has...

    Storage of video files

Shill a little quieter, m'kay? ~~~ As to actual question from OP... lots of local spinning disks for intermediate storage, ideally in RAID w/ appropriate precautions. SSD for files you're editing/grading or otherwise working with. And for me, I archive all fully rendered (and actually, most...
